1.3 SUBMITTALS

D. Samples: Two samples, minimum size 4 inches wide by 8
inches long, of specified materials for wood paneling.
E. Manufacturer's printed installation instructions for
sauna, benches, and accessories.
F. Operation and Maintenance Data: Sauna enclosure, heater,
and control/monitoring equipment.
G. Warranty documents: Issued and executed by manufacturer.
1.4 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products of this section in manufacturer's unopened
packaging until installation.
B. Maintain dry, heated storage area for products of this
section until installation of products.
1.5 WARRANTY
A. Manufacturer's Warranty: One-year on room materials and
workmanship when installed according to manufacturer's
specifications and wiring information, 5 years on factory
labor.

2.2 MANUFACTURED UNITS
NOTE ** Retain one of the following paragraphs, completing
model number designation and size. Custom sizes
are available for precut saunas; select standard
sizes seating up to 12 people for precut and prefab
saunas from manufacturer's literature. Coordinate
with SECTION INCLUDES Article in PART 1 of this
section.
NOTE **
NOTE ** Precut sauna packages require a framed insulated
space and a washable floor. Prefab saunas can be
installed on any level hard-surfaced waterproof
floor; electrical conduit is sealed within the
walls, control box (where necessary) is premounted.
NOTE **
NOTE ** Prefab 5-sided saunas have a choice of 4 woods for
interior. Two non-visible exterior walls are of
ruff sawn mahogany; 3 visible exterior walls are in
choice of 4 clear woods. Size is 6 feet by 6 feet
with 7-foot ceiling, full glass door and clear
glass windows on two sides.

NOTE ** Insulated outdoor saunas include a roof package:
wood plates, prefab rafters, nailers, facing, metal
flashing, cedar shingles, ridge cap, and nails.

2.3 COMPONENTS

NOTE ** Retain the following paragraph if specifying precut
sauna; manufacturer recommends dry Douglas Fir,
construction grade no. 1 or 2, spaced 16 inches on
centers, with bottom of ceiling joists 7 feet above
finished floor. Use pressure-treated plates
against concrete.
D. Wall and Ceiling Framing: Specified in Section 06100.
NOTE ** Retain the following paragraph if specifying prefab
modular saunas or outdoor saunas.
E. Wall and Ceiling Framing: 2 inch by 2 inch Oregon
Douglas Fir.

H. Wall and Ceiling Vapor Barrier: Type C Building Foil.
I. Interior Wall and Ceiling Finish: Board paneling of
nominal 1 inch by 4 inches kiln-dried softwood lumber;
small V-joint tongue-and-groove.
NOTE ** Select one of the following four species.
NOTE **
NOTE ** California Redwood is the most fire resistant, dry-
rot resistant, termite resistant, and does not
warp. Western Red Cedar has the most color
variation, a refreshing aroma, and is dry-rot
resistant; as the softest wood, it is least hot to
sit on or lean against. Alaska Yellow Cedar is an
exclusive white wood, has a pungent aroma, and is
silky to the touch. Western Hemlock is excellent
for people who have wood allergies or are
chemically sensitive, since it has no aroma and no
resins.
1. Species: California Redwood, clear, 100 percent
vertical grain.
2. Species: Western Red Cedar, clear.
3. Species: Alaska Yellow Cedar, clear.
4. Species: Western Hemlock, clear.
5. Lengths: As required for single board length runs;
end-to-end joints not permitted except in very large
rooms.
NOTE ** Retain one of the following two paragraphs if
specifying prefab or outdoor saunas. The first is
standard, the second is an option.
J. Exterior Siding: 11/32 inch ruff-sawn mahogany plywood
or panolam.
K. Optional Exterior Siding: 1/2 inch by 4 inch tongue-and-
groove Western Red Cedar.
L. Flooring: "Super Dek" flooring squares for walking areas
over concrete, tile, or vinyl; removable, washable,
sanitary, non-skid, synthetic material.
M. Prehung Doors and Frames:
1. Door Rails: One-piece vertical grain Oregon Douglas
Fir, machined for integral stop.
NOTE ** Retain one of the following subparagraphs.
Standard door size is 2 feet by 6 feet 8 inches; 3
foot wide doors are ADA compliant.
a. Door size: 2 feet wide by 6 feet 8 inches.
b. Door size: 3 feet wide by 6 feet 8 inches.
NOTE ** Delete one of the following two subparagraphs.
c. Door swing, as viewed from outside sauna,
outswinging: Model FGD-L, hinged left side.
d. Door swing, as viewed from outside sauna,
outswinging: Model FGD-R, hinged right side.
2. Glass: Hermetically-sealed double glass, tempered.
NOTE ** Delete all but one of the following three
subparagraphs. Clear glass is standard in the
Precut (FPC) and prefab (FPF) saunas. Etched glass
is an exclusive option, with negative image for
maximum privacy.
a. Clear.
b. Custom designed and etched, negative image.

3. Casing, Jamb, and Threshold: Vertical grain Redwood,
S4S, maximum 11 percent moisture content, jamb
machined for integral stop.
4. Hinges: Three 4-inch by 4-inch butts.
5. Ball Catch: Ives MP347B3.
6. Door Pulls: Two wood pulls 080 each door.
NOTE ** If a fire sprinkler is required at the sauna, the
head should be set at 275 degrees F (135 degrees C)
or higher and should not be located over the sauna
heater. It will also be necessary to ascertain the
elevation above sea level for the sauna when
ordering.
N. Sauna Heaters: Three-wall pressed metal construction,
stainless steel heating elements, large rock capacity,
direct rock contact with heating elements, free air flow;
UL tested and listed.
NOTE ** Select heater type and model from the five
subparagraphs below.
NOTE **
NOTE ** Insert 30, 45, 60, or 80 after Model FLB below for
3,000 (12.5 amps), 4,500 (18.8 amps), 6,000 (25
amps), or 8,000 (33.3 amps) watts, respectively.
3,000 watts is recommended for 84-130 cubic foot
(2.379-3.682 cubic m) sauna, 4,500 for 100-210
cubic feet (2.832-5.947 cubic m), 6,000 for 170-300
cubic feet (4.814-8.498 cubic m), and 8,000 for 250-
425 cubic feet (7.080-12.036 cubic m).
1. Wall mounted type, single phase; Model FLB____.
a. Size: 16 inches (406 mm) wide, 11 inches (279
mm) deep, 24 inches (610 mm) high.
b. Construction: Stainless steel interior and top,
baked enamel exterior.
NOTE ** Delete subparagraph above or below.
c. Construction: Stainless steel interior and top,
stainless steel exterior.
d. Controls: Built-in (60 minute timer,
thermostat), 8-hour programmable time clock.
NOTE ** Delete subparagraph above or below.
e. Controls, Front Mounted: Built-in (60 minute
timer, thermostat).
NOTE ** Insert 30, 45, 60, or 80 after Model FIN below for

525 cubic foot (8.496-14.868 cubic m) sauna, 10,500
for 390-600 cubic feet (11.045-16.992 cubic m),
12,000 for 440-750 cubic feet (12.461-21.240 cubic
m), and 15,000 for 560-1,050 cubic feet (15.859-
29.736 cubic m).
4. Floor model type, single phase; Model FLC_____.
a. Size: 17 inches (432 mm) wide, 20 inches (508
mm) deep, 26 inches (660 mm) high.
b. Construction: Deluxe stainless steel interior
and exterior.
c. Controls: Wall mounted; include thermostat, 60-
minute timer, light switch, and indicator light.
d. Contactor: Model FL404; 8 inches (203 mm) wide,
12 inches (305 mm) high, 4 inches 102 mm) deep.
NOTE ** Insert 90-3, 105-3, 120-3, or 150-3 after Model FLC
below for 9,000 (25 amps), 10,500 (29.2 amps),
12,000 (33.3 amps), or 15,000 (41.7 amps) watts,
respectively. 9,000 watts is recommended for 300-
525 cubic foot (8.496-14.868 cubic m) sauna, 10,500
for 390-600 cubic feet (11.045-16.992 cubic m),
12,000 for 440-750 cubic feet (12.461-21.240 cubic
m), and 15,000 for 560-1,050 cubic feet (15.859-
29.736 cubic m).
5. Floor model type, three phase; Model FLC_______.
a. Size: 17 inches (432 mm) wide, 20 inches (508
mm) deep, 26 inches (660 mm) high.
b. Construction: Deluxe stainless steel interior
and exterior.
c. Controls: Wall mounted; include thermostat, 60-
minute timer, light switch, and indicator light.
d. Contactor: Model FL503; 8 inches (203 mm) wide,
12 inches (305 mm) high, 4 inches 102 mm) deep.
O. Heater Fence: S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 1 by
2 (3/4 inch by 1-5/8 inches) and 2 by 2 (1-5/8 inches by
1-5/8 inches).
P. Benches: S4S, kiln-dried clear vertical grain, 2 by 2 (1-
5/8 inches by 1-5/8 inches) tops with 1/2 inch nominal
spacing; eased edges to eliminate sharp angles.
1. Facings: 2 by 4 (1-5/8 inches by 3-1/2 inches) of
same material as tops; eased edges.
2. Trim: Wood species to match room paneling.
Q. Fasteners: Galvanized, applied from bottom to eliminate
exposed metal; exposed nails countersunk and filled.
R. Vents: 4 inches by 10 inches.

prefab saunas.

PART 3 EXECUTION
3.1 EXAMINATION
A. Verify that utility services are of correct type and in
correct locations.
B. Verify that construction activities affecting work of
this section are correct and complete.
C. Examine conditions under which work of this section is to
be performed.
1. Submit written notification if such conditions are
unacceptable.
2. Transmit two copies of installer's report to
Architect within 24 hours of receipt.
3. Beginning work of this section before unacceptable
conditions have been corrected is prohibited.
4. Beginning construction activities of this section
indicates installer's acceptance of conditions.
3.2 INSTALLATION
A. Install saunas and accessories in accordance with shop
drawings and manufacturer's printed installation
instructions.
B. Connection of heater, lighting, and control/monitoring
equipment, to electrical service is specified in Section
16100.
3.3 CLEANING
A. Clean soiled surfaces in accordance with manufacturer's
instructions.
3.4 PROTECTION OF INSTALLED PRODUCTS
A. Protect sauna and components from damage to finishes and
operation until Substantial Completion.
